To set authenticator as your default security option, visit:
 
https://myaccount.microsoft.com
 
and sign in with your school account and select Security Info from the left-hand side:
 
 
 
 
You will see the sign in options available to you.
If Microsoft Authenticator is not there, click Add Sign in Method and follow the instructions.
 
Click Change:
 
In the drop-down box, select App Based Authenticator – Notification
 
 
Click Confirm.
 
Your default will now be Microsoft Authenticator.
 
Next time you log into atHome it will pause on Connecting… for 60 seconds and your phone will notify you to authenticate.

If you do not see the notification, open the Microsoft Authenticator app and it will ask you to authenticate:

Note it is possible to use other Authenticators (such as Google) but is must be one that supports notifications and not just a six digit PIN code.
If your chosen app does not support it then it will default to Microsoft Authenticator.
 
You must also use a device that has a PIN code locking it and/or Touch ID or Face ID. Android devices must meet certain security checks before our system, will allow you to sign in. Without these you cannot sign in to Authenticator.
